Dear Supporters of Brazil Inland Mission,
I am writing this letter today to let you know of some exciting news regarding our mission.
As many of you know, BIM has been in existence since 1954 and we have seen the Lord do tremendous things through the tireless and faithful work of our missionaries.  What you may not be aware of is that since the founding of our mission, almost all the work of the home board has been done by volunteers.  Most of the positions on the board can function with this arrangement due to the smaller size of our mission.  The one position that requires the greatest amount of personal time is that of our assistant treasurer.  David Kreider has been faithfully serving in this position for many years.  Lately, David has let the board know that he is going to be unable to continue serving at the level he has in the past.  Due to this, we have been searching for someone to take over his responsibilities.  This has proven difficult due to the number of hours required.  Because of this, and other factors, such as: the age of our board members, and the small size of our mission, the board began to consider another option.
About sixty-four years ago our mission was founded by several missionaries who were serving with Brazil Gospel Fellowship Mission.  BGFM was only working in the state of CearĂ¡ at that time and these missionaries felt called of God to go to other areas of Brazil.  Through the efforts of these missionaries, Brazil Inland Mission was born.  Over the years, God has continued to use both missions for the furtherance of His Kingdom.
Due to our history with BGFM, our missions being very like-minded, and our need for someone to fill this important position, the board of BIM decided to pray about and do some initial research on the possibility of joining with BGFM.  Through much prayer, contact between both missions, and ongoing conversations with our missionaries, God has made it clear to both missions that this is the step He wants us to take.  Our missionaries are very excited about this merger and are looking forward to what God has in store for the future.
The process of merging the two missions together will happen during the months of October and November of 2018.  As you can imagine, there is much that needs to take place in the next few months in order for this merger to take place.  Our missionaries are already in the process of becoming missionaries with BGFM and will officially make the switch by October 1stWe ask that all of you begin donating to your missionaries through BGFM in October.  BIM will still accept donations during this transition time but will no longer accept donations after November 30, 2018.  Any donations received during this transition by BIM will be given to the missionary or project it is designated toward.
As we work through this process with BGFM, there will be a transitional time in which they will begin accepting donations for our missionaries as soon as October of 2018. BIM will no longer accept donations after November 30, 2018.  I have included a donation slip to be used for your initial donations to BGFM.  Please print the missionaries first and last name clearly to help ensure the proper receipting of your donation. After BGFM receives your first donation, they will send you a receipt with a remittance envelope for future donations or they can send you an e-mail receipt if you prefer.
Additional giving options are also available, such as the receiving of bill pay checks, ACH (electronic debits from your checking or savings accounts), and pay pal giving (using a credit card).  Feel free to contact them if you have any questions regarding your donations or giving options. Their office phone number is 217-523-7176.
If you are donating to a special project such as National Student Pastor Fund (NSPF), Harmony Camp, or any other project, please write the designation clearly so there is no confusion.  BGFM will contact you if there is any question concerning your donation.  Please write your contact information clearly on the donation slip.  If you have any questions concerning how to designate funds, please call the phone number above.
I want to thank all of you who have so generously and graciously donated to, prayed for, and cared for the missionaries of the Brazil Inland Mission over the last 64 years.  God has truly been faithful and has accomplished much for His kingdom!  We are looking forward to what He will accomplish as these two great missions merge to further the Gospel of our Savior.
Because of Christ,
Rev. Duane Smith
